We've had this domain for along time. We purchased it knowing eventually that it would be used to help folks keep in touch with each other. We even wrote about it in the newspaper back in 1996. Are we trying to compete with Facebook, MySpace, and the other social networks?Honestly we don't think we have to. Eventually, when Internet users get tired of getting surveys, advertising, 'What color is your banana?" and other game type stuff thrown at them on a regular basis... they are going to try and find a place where they can communicate without all the intrustion. A place where the main focus is on keeping up with the folks that they went to school with "Back in the day!"
That's where we will come in. We aren't really interested in this becoming a big money making machine for us. We're interested in it being here 50 years from now. Which poses a question.
Who's going to be running it then? Obviously, we won't still be around... unless of course we live to be over 100... so we need to find a way to keep this project running, regardless of who's still around or not.
We don't think the school board should or would do it, because of several reasons. The main one is the cost involved.
So, some sort of 'non-profit' organization needs to be set up.... and donations taken to help support the site. Maybe some advertising could offset the cost...who knows. What we do know is that it will take ordinary people like you...interested in doing something extra-ordinary. People who would be interested in setting up some sort of "Scholarship Fund" based on the revenue of the site. People who want to help generations of Eagles to come achieve their dreams.
